Biography

Jose is an LA-based film composer and violinist best known for his Bluegrass/Americana and Latin sounds. A fan of every flavor of music, Jose can easily be found improvising fiddle tunes at a Hollywood bar as quickly as arranging for a traditional orchestra. As an additional composer for Jake Monaco, Jose has contributed music to projects such as Disney Pixar’s Cars on the Road from Pixar’s markedly successful Cars franchise, Paramount’s Jerry & Marge Go Large starring Bryan Cranston and Annette Bening, Amazon’s hit kids series, Do, Re & Mi, starring Kristen Bell, Disney’s adventure comedy, Flora & Ulysses, and the Apple TV+ series, Pretzel and the Puppies. After attending Florida State University for composition and violin performance, Jose graduated from the competitive Screen Scoring master’s program at the University of Southern California in 2019. Jose holds a Regional Emmy for his work on the TV spot Lauren’s Kids and received a Regional Emmy nomination for his lively Latin score to NBC’s feature-length documentary The Spirit of Miami.

As a violin and fiddle performer (same instrument - different attitude!), Jose has had the opportunity to record on Marvel Studios’ WandaVision and Hawkeye series as well as the Disney Pixar series Forky Asks a Question from the beloved Toy Story franchise.

Jose’s passion for film scores started young with uncountable viewings of The Chronicles of Narnia in utter admiration of the score. Now as a composer, Jose is always excited to discover new ways to fuse styles, create signature sounds, and produce simple yet effective scores - “The most interesting pursuit of film scoring to me is creating a sound that is transparent and restrained enough to never push further than the picture demands, while also creating a sound that is immediately memorable and able to amplify the story’s purpose at meticulously chosen moments - moments of catharsis that can only be attained when music is added to the mix.” - Jose Kropp.
